Emblem of Peter Scheitenhauer from 1583

Emblem of Peter Scheitenhauer from 1583

Townhouse on 28 October Street No. 10

Cultural monument no. 13091 / 8-3356

A sandstone oval slab measuring 37 x 25 cm walled in the middle of the ceiling of the ground floor room of the house No. 10 on 28 October Street.

In the oval an emblem - three acorns and three leaves grow alternately on the stem from a laid off oak branch. The plate shows remnants, probably of non-original polychromy, the field is blue, the emblematic figure, like the letters, is golden.

A capital inscription in relief runs around the perimeter:

PETR . SSEYTENHAVER . FROM FVLNEKA .1583 (the dividing marks are rosettes)

The owner of the burgher house No. 10 was from 1583 the important New England burgher Petr Scheitenhauer from Fulnek, who rebuilt and extended the whole house in the same year. In 1562, 1570 and 1576, he also held the office of mayor. The Scheitenhauers sold the house when they bought a new house in 1602 on the Nový Jičín square.
