Nový Jičín offers visitors interested in culture an extensive range of activities at several cultural facilities in the town.
The Beskyd Theatre holds theatre performances, classic music and pop music concerts and hosts leading theatre ensembles.
The Municipal Cultural Centre arranges and realises events with a cultural programme. Concerts, poetic and musical evenings take place at the Galerka Club, at the Stará pošta coffee music bar or the Archa Tea house.
The exhibitions and events organised by the Visitor’s Centre in Laudon’s House also contribute to cultural events in the town. The Visitor’s Centre also organises the fairs held on Masaryk Square.
The Museum of the Nový Jičín Region also holds a number of interesting lectures and exhibitions at the Žerotín Chateau and organises many entertaining programmes intended for the general public.
Summer in Nový Jičín culminates with the Town Celebrations, which are held at the beginning of September. The town travels back into the past for one day with a varied parade of craftsmen, performers and musicians. The square becomes one large stage with a performance captivating all visitors. The celebrations end with a firework show and an evening concert.
Nový Jičín offers varied opportunities for sports activities. You can visit the indoor swimming pool with sauna and summer outdoor swimming pool with toboggan not far from the centre of town. The complex also contains a basketball court.
The Hotel Abácie sports centre, which also includes a wellness centre, offers facilities not only for squash, bowling and tennis, but also a number of other sports activities.
Near this complex you can visit the winter stadium, either as a spectator of a hockey match or to come ice-skating in winter.
You can play tennis on the open-air tennis courts or in one of the indoor tennis halls.
Winter sports enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to go skiing on the run on Svinec Hill, which is also interesting for more advanced skiers, and there are also groomed tracks for cross-country skiers in the area surrounding the ski lodge. These tracks connect to the tracks in the Beskyd Foothills.
