Janáček Gardens
From the middle of the 16th century until 1830, the second Novojičín cemetery was located in these places. The Chapel of the Holy Cross from 1757 is a remnant of this cemetery. After the cemetery was closed in 1879, the extended area was turned into a park. Visitors can see here "wandering boulders" of Swedish granite and rune, which were transported to the surroundings of Nový Jičín 500,000 to 550,000 years ago by a continental glacier from Scandinavia. There is also a bust of the brilliant Moravian composer Leoš Janáček, a native of nearby Hukvaldy, after whom the park is named. In 1995, a memorial plaque to Karel Kryl, who spent his youth in Nový Jičín, was placed in the local soil.
