The rocks are one of the favourite destinations for trips and walks of the inhabitants and visitors of Nový Jičín. A memorial stone from 1894, which can be found above the road to the local part of Kojetín, states that Skalky was adapted for recreation from the donations of the inhabitants of Nový Jičín. The remains of resting places and stone benches are still visible deeper in the forest. A beautiful place in the woods behind the town hides a stone theatre, which was once created by modifying a former quarry. The outdoor amphitheatre with a capacity of 2,000 seats, where concerts and other cultural and social events are held in the summer months, is not to be overlooked in the area of Skalky. The František Palacký Educational and Heritage Trail also runs through Skalka, continuing towards Svinec.

Do you know who holds the key to Skalka?

According to legend, it is always the oldest bachelor in the town. A rich but extremely stingy bachelor is said to have had a dream come true. He heard that there was a treasure hidden in the Rocks, and whoever got the key could take away as many jewels as he wanted. In the dream he found himself in a beautiful hall, and on a throne sat the king of the Elves, who said to him: "Here is the key to the entrance of the Rocks, and you may choose the reward that is rightfully yours." In the morning the youth awoke to see the key on the table. He hastened to the mountain, but the place was empty. The key to the treasure was always held by the oldest bachelor, whose life was as empty as the treasure place.
