16th century
1503 - The wooden town burned down during a fire and work began on construction of a new stone town.
1533 - Work began to convert the Renaissance Žerotín Château and lasted until 1541.
1558 - Nový Jičín gained independence and became a chamber town (a subject of the government).
1593 - The town’s government is transferred to the repaired Žerotín Château.
1563 - Burgomaster Ondřej Řepa of Greifendorf built a Renaissance house with arcades on the square as a family residence, it is later known as the Old Post Office.

- Son of Petr ze Žerotína and Markéta z Pernštejna.
- In 1533 he took over the Štramberk estate with Nový Jičín and subsequently contributed to the fundamental reconstruction of the local manor house into a Renaissance chateau.
Ondřej Řepa
Born: 16th century
Death: 1596
- One of the most famous mayors of Nový Jičín.
- He owned a building on the square, today called the Old Post Office.
