Commemorative plaque of the visit of Emperor Joseph II.

Commemorative plaque of the visit of Emperor Joseph II.

The bronze plaque is the work of academic sculptor Saša Zahradník. It was reinstalled on 6 October 2007. One of the most enlightened monarchs of the 18th century, Emperor Joseph II arrived in Nový Jičín along the newly built Imperial Road on 13 April 1787 during his second state visit to Russia to meet Tsarina Catherine II. He stayed in the town and spent the night at the U zeleného stromu inn on the town square. The first commemorative plaque was placed by the citizens of Nový Jičín on this memorial house in 1880.
