Josef Prorok was a parish priest and dean, he was a professor at the provincial real school. In addition to his spiritual and educational activities, he was also a renowned mineralogist and paleontologist. In 1882 he was appointed an honorary citizen and in 1887 he became a co-founder of the Nový Jičín Museum.
